Literature & Art Of Payradanga

From the birth of this place, peoples come into the light of literature world. Many Bramhin Pandits wrote books(puthi) in various topics. Some of them are kept into some toles, even we can found some Panjikas which are 100 years old.

Ramesh Chandra Chakroborty(Pandit) who is one of the few people who spent his prime time with Rabindranath Tagore in Santiniketan has wrote few good books. After that many writers wrote various books from here, the list is huge.

If we look at the history, Payradanga has a unique place in the sector of drama. In ancient locality more or less there is a craze of drama acting, but those are all armature, basically they used to do it in festivals. But after the independence in 1947 people started to come home here & start to build a healthy locality in different places here like Pritinagar, Parbatipur, Gopalpur, Baninagar etc.

The First well organized drama group 'Milan Samity Natyagosthy' in 1953 founded by Subodh Ghosh, the first drama they have played is 'Parthasarathy' written by Utpalendu Sen. Khitish Chandra Ghosh, Sukuar Chowdhury, Sitangshu Chowdhury, Badal Sarkar, Dr. K.C. Saha, Dr. Brajabasi Aditya, Bhabotosh Majumder were well known figure in this field.

Many here organization like 'Bhartiya Ganenatya Sangha' , 'Tarun Sangha', 'Rupayan' , 'Payradanga Anchalik Natya Sangha', 'Natya Sangastha'are other well known drama groups here.

Also 'Nabin Natya Sangha' of Nandighat, 'Dramatic Club(founder Apurba Chattajee) in 1965, 'Anamica Theater Center' (founder Prabir Nag) in 1978, 'Manaharaty (founder Subhas Nandi), is some famous name in the history of drama.

After the independence few Club organization started to publish many Magazine & papers. First one is 'Parag' in 1954(The editor was Rabi Dutta), in 1978'Bamichandan, in 1982 Kowrab, in 1986 'Agnifine' are some historical magagine published from here.

Currently few famous magazines are 'Disha', Padakyep', 'Pabitra, 'Bikyan', 'Charabhami', etc.
